PROJECT OVERVIEW
A Smarter Approach to Campus Energy Management
Educational facilities require reliable lighting, comfortable indoor temperatures, and efficient building operations throughout the day. Managing these systems independently can make it more difficult for facility teams to monitor occupancy, coordinate air-conditioning, and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.
At Singapore Polytechnic's W5A project, BZERO Technologies implemented an integrated smart building control solution covering lighting management, occupancy monitoring, and VRV/FCU air-conditioning control.

THE CHALLENGE
Improving Building Efficiency Without Extensive Cabling
Singapore Polytechnic project involved retrofit and renovation works where the client required control devices that could be installed conveniently without additional cabling works, helping to reduce installation labour costs.
The project also required improved visibility into space utilisation and building operations.
The key objectives were to:
-
Improve air-conditioning control and occupancy space management.
-
Introduce occupancy mapping to help facility teams understand space utilisation.
-
Reduce installation complexity through wireless control technology.
-
Support energy efficiency while maintaining occupant comfort.
-
Provide centralised monitoring, historical data, and flexible facility control.

THE SOLUTION
Integrated Smart Building Control
BZERO Technologies implemented an integrated solution combining three key functions: intelligent lighting management, real-time occupancy monitoring, and automated air-conditioning control.
Smart Lighting Management
BLE Mesh lighting controller with PIR & LUX sensors. Occupancy-responsive, daylight harvesting, dimming, and automatic on/off control.
Automated VRV/FCU Air-Conditioning Control
Adjusts occupancy and room temperature. Auto or manual control via SCADA dashboard.
Real-Time Occupancy Monitoring
Detection, non-detection, and sensor fault feedback. Zone, floor, and building-level occupancy via SCADA. Historical data and alarm table.
Central Dashboard and Edge Server
User management, central monitoring, historical data recording and optional master lighting control and power metering.
SMART TECHNOLOGY FEATURES
Connected Control. Clearer Building Insights.
Wireless BLE Mesh Network
Reduces the need for additional control cabling.
Occupancy Mapping
Displays occupancy information across floor plans, zones, and floors.
Automated HVAC Control
Based on occupancy & temperature data with manual override.
Central SCADA Monitoring
System control, historical data and user management
Mobile Application Access
IOS & Android apps for on-the-go monitoring & control.
Historical Trends and Fault Alerts
Occupancy data, sensor fault notifications and performance trends.
THE RESULTS
Optimising Energy Use and Campus Operations
Singapore Polytechnic project brings lighting control, occupancy monitoring, and air-conditioning management into an integrated building control environment.
The project presentation identifies a minimum estimated annual energy saving of 30%.
Actual savings will depend on operating schedules, occupancy patterns, system settings, and measured building performance.
